    School Lunch

Cooperative Extension Services (CES) is an entity within the University of Guam that "extends" the university's resources to assist in community needs through unique federal support.

School Lunch and Breakfast Cost Study (SLBCS) A study of the costs of producing a school meal on Guam as compared to the costs of producing a similar meal in the 48 contiguous states is long overdue. The Guam Department of Education (GDOE) school lunch and breakfast programs are partially federally reimbursed programs. These programs help families with limited income use resources to improve food and nutrition related practices through nutrition related practices through nutrition education and financial assistance efforts. GDOE seeks to address the imbalance of costs associated with providing meals on Guam as compared to the existing GDOE U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) reimbursement rates to the states by conducting a comprehensive cost study of producing a school meal on Guam.

The aims of the costs study are to:

In addition to the GDOE direct cost study analysis special surveys will be conducted. The results of such special surveys will be utilized when considering the broader concerns associated with the federal reimbursement rates.
